The shipyard Aalborg Vaerft A/S was founded in 1912. It was located just east of Pier 5 Hotel, and the hotel’s bar has been named VAERFT in honour of the shipyard’s and the old port’s history. VAERFT is much more than a hotel bar. VAERFT is Aalborg’s new local cocktail bar, the place to relax with your colleagues after a long day, the place to meet before a concert, and the place where innovative cocktails and fantastic surroundings add a new dimension to your evening out.

The aim is clear: Jesper Skov, VAERFT’S bar manager wants to create spectacular cocktails that will appeal to all senses. And he does this using molecular methods and international themes never before seen on Aalborg’s bar scene.

You’ll soon find that a cocktail from the VAERFT Cocktail Bar is more than just a cocktail – it’s a spectacular experience that appeals to all your senses. It’s the combination of the balanced flavours you only get from quality Danish-produced spirits, the fresh scent of organic citrus fruits, the festive sound of jazz from the old vinyl record player, the beautiful sight of colourful and carefully prepared garnishes and the angular feel of the handmade ceramic cocktail glass that makes this a truly sensory experience.

When it all comes together in the same moment, you will suddenly discover why VAERFT is not just an ordinary hotel bar – but a completely unique meeting place where different people come together for a spectacular cocktail experience.


VAERFT Cocktail Bar offers exciting cocktail tasting courses based around a particular spirit. Together with our bar manager, Jesper Skov, we”ll put together an exciting day that includes a tasting of different types of flavours and a brief history of the spirit in question.

VAERFT draws the waterfront inside the bar, making it a key part of the overall experience. The cocktail bar extends into the hotel lounge with its choice of cosy nooks where you cansink into the soft seats, enjoy the warmth of the fireplace and take in the fjord view.

In summer, take your cocktail out on the newly built terrace, and enjoy the beautiful surroundings and the old waterfront up close.

Every Friday, VAERFT Cocktail Bar invites you inside to a completely new tradition on the Aalborg waterfront – Friday bar with festive jazz tones from kl. 15-18.

The whole team looks forward to offering spectacular Friday cocktails, wonderful jazz music and of course the always beautiful fjord views.

meet Jesper skov


The head of VAERFT Cocktail Bar is bar manager Jesper Skov, who comes from the Aarhus bar community. Over the past 12-13 years, he has been responsible for multiple sensational bar projects in Skagen and Aarhus, to name but a few.

Alongside VAERFT, Jesper also runs Bar Flora at the newly opened Peak 12 Hotel in Viborg – one of the newest Bühlmann hotels in the chain. Here he created a bar concept with a focus on nature, organic produce and Danish quality products – and with great success.

Jesper is passionate about creating the perfect balance in a cocktail, and he’s not afraid to get all five senses involved. A cocktail is never just a cocktail – it should be an extraordinary experience that you never forget.
