Although it’s hard to imagine, for hundreds of years the Aalborg waterfront was known for its industry, port work and merchant ships from distant lands. Today, the industry has been replaced by cultural attractions, and the area has become an iconic meeting place for locals and tourists from all over the world.
The Port of Aalborg is a central part of both the identity and design of Pier 5 Hotel, which is why it has also been incorporated in the heart of the hotel – the cosy and newly renovated lounge. This is where state-of-the-art facilities meet old tales from the waterfront

When you arrive at Pier 5 Hotel, you will immediately experience how the hotel’s modern design complements the old port outside. A container-inspired wall, exposed ceiling installations and modern design from the inside out – old meets new wherever you are in the hotel.
The lounge has been designed for you to explore all the different time zones in history. As such, we have equipped the entire lounge area with cosy nooks, where you can sink into the soft armchairs, enjoy the gentle sound of jazz playing on the turntable and ponder what secrets the old harbour pier has witnessed over the years.
VAERFT COCKTAIL BAR
COCKTAILS OF AN INTERNATIONAL STANDARD
The lounge at Pier 5 Hotel is also home to VAERFT – Aalborg’s brand new cocktail bar. Jesper Skov is in charge of Bar VAERFT, and comes with extensive experience from several sensational bar projects in Skagen and Aarhus, to name but a few.
VAERFT’s innovative cocktail menu offers a wealth of new interpretations of different cocktails from around the world. Here you will quickly discover how the bar’s cocktails – like everything else in the hotel – interplay with the external surroundings. All ingredients are carefully selected for the bar’s green profile, and are primarily organic and Danish-made.
At VAERFT, the focus is on exclusivity, an international vibe and elements of surprise. We make spectacular cocktails that stimulate all the guests' senses - and we reinterpret international cocktails and use molecular methods in a way never before experienced in Aalborg's bar scene.

The lounge at Pier 5 Hotel is the perfect meeting place. The lighting is dim, jazz music plays in the background, and the atmosphere is relaxing and informal.
The lounge is surrounded by cosy nooks where you can sink into the soft seats and just relax. Close to the large panoramic windows we have installed a fireplace where you can enjoy a good book, the beautiful view of the fjord or a spectacular cocktail from VAERFT Cocktail Bar.
